Great post... I have had a similar experience with an on-line camera shop: Fotoconnection.com
I placed an order, received a similar e-mail about confirming the order and talked to one of the reps about ordering "gray market" equipment. I got everything cleared up without too much trouble arguing the advertised product mentions nothing about non US standard equipment etc etc.
Long and short of my story: there are all sorts of scams out there and its far easier to purchase from a vendor recommended by this site (or one with a well known reputation) even if it costs a few extra dollars. Peace-of-mind is priceless.

i was hit with a bait & switch back in 2005. i currently have bought all of my equipment through Cameta Camera.
