I got this camera for about 180$ used from the photographer of memagnus.com
when i first tested it, i was very impressed by it.
it's the smallest lens of it's class with a length of 3.3 inches, while it IS small, it is a heavy lens at 19.5 oz *a little over a pound*
i believe the large *77mm* front element has something to do with the weight of lens.
pretty heavy lens, and it's got such a huge front element that it's no wonder that Sigma felt it proper for the lens to have a zoom lock.
the lens also comes with a small and stout bag, with the label Sigma EX on it.
another item the lens came with is a flower lens hood. this gives it a little bit of added protection, not only from unwanted light pollution but also by preventing a direct hit to the glass.
onto the pros and cons-
PROS
-the lens can both be shot with a DX or FX body.
-the lens is equipped with a zoom lock to prevent creep.
-very close focusing @ 14.xx inches
-very sturdy build
-compact, at 3.3 inches it's the smallest of its class
-very sharp throughout the f-stop range.
-f2.8 constant
CONS
-sometimes it's got a nasty sound when focusing.
-it's zoom ring turns opposite from other lenses. i've lost a couple of shots because of this.
-manual focus is impossible with the lens shade reversed.
-expensive filters. the 77mm doesn't help at all with this problem.
i got this lens as my all around lens, since i've had it- my 18-105 VR hasn't touched my D90.
here are the shots guys!
my first shot with the lens- at f2.8
thanks for reading!
