stays permanently on my d1000 with AA lithium batteries, I think you can get 1000 shots, it's been a month of heavy use and the bar is still full.

indispensable, leave your charger/cords/lithium ion at home!

Why is it so hard putting the D after the 1000..? :?

But I agree, the battery grip really is worth getting.

I just bought a battery grip for my D90 and the balance definitely improved a bit with the 70-200 (from sigma) :)
