Hi I am a father of three little monsters (5years / 3 years / 5 months).

I am trying to read all reviews that are out there but the trouble is I am going on holiday in about a week and need to decide very quickly what to get.

I can afford a DSLR but it will not be practical as I will also carry a camcorder. My wife is allergic to anything digital so I am the lucky one that has to carry the camcorder, the camera, the kids and the bags. She gets to push the push chair which is hard work she says.

Anyway, money does not matter so I simply want to know what is the best compact to buy so I can take photos of the kids (size does not matter as long as it is not a DSLR)?

Like every one else I want the best quality image.

Please help. I only have 6 days and so many hours to go as I have to go and buy a Camcorder too.

Thank you.

Hello Camerax, and welcome to the Camera Labs forum!

Have you considered, that if you buy a decent camcorder, like one of the new HD-variant, you can also make still-shots with it? And not bad ones, too!
Honestly, if I bought a new camcorder than I would want to have a DSLR to really have the high-quality stills, not a P&S with so-so IQ.

A high-quality HD camcorder means around 800-1300 EUR (e.g. the Sony HDR-CX6/HDR-SR7 with 60GB-HD or the 3CCD Panasonic HDC-SD1), so this is by no means a small investment.
