I have a Canon 7D, but I really don't want to take that on vacation with us. As a result, I've been looking into a G16 or possibly HX50V. I'd like to keep the price as close to sub-$400.

The G16 is currently $450, so it's a bit of a stretch. The 50V is on sale now for $350. So if price is my issue, then the 50V is my choice.

I realize that these two are not necessarily in the same class, and I'm open for other suggestions. I've even considered something like the Nikon P7800.

I got burned by Sony on cameras years ago and have never cared for their proprietary BS. I swore that I'd never buy a Sony again, but alas time heals all wounds. The 50V looks appealing - particularly the optical zoom. I like the processor and aperture on the G16. Reviews on both lean towards the G16, and rightfully so.

I'm just looking for others' feedback. Anything else out there that I'm not considering?

Thx in advance.
