Okay, I'll freely admit it; I left this for the last minute, and I have both of these cameras in front of me to take with me for six months in India (in one spot). I am hard on all sorts of equipment (drowned my last cheap camera), which is why I've chosen two more inexpensive cameras.

I've read through all the wonderful, detailed reviews of both cameras, noting the Panasonic "outshone" the Canon by a mere percentage point (84 points versus 83). However, I am unable to pick from the reviews; there's too much good info!

What say folks in this situation? I have six days to continue my packing, etc., and don't have the ability to even sit still and focus. (Yes, I do sound like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland). I'm interested in good quality shots, and two different sales folks persuaded me to buy both of these. One said the Lumix had better lenses. Oddly, that's what the other sales person (same store) said about the Canon. So...I'm in a whirl. What would folks do? Which should I keep?

Hi Welcome aboard.

What focal length are you looking for, personally I find wide angle more useful than a longer zoom.
the Panasonic as its got a 24-384 zoom instead of the Canon 310 which is 28-225. The 24 wide angle is worth having. But there is a Canon 300 it comes with 24-120 zoom.
I would pick that instead.

The Panasonic sounds like a great package, the canon may have the edge in image quality, see Gordon`s review. "Patchy image quality even at 100 ISO. Noisy throughout ISO range."

I would be deciding what size body I wanted and then look for wide angle zoom starting at 24 and decent IQ with good performance in low light, not having a lens cap is nice.

Canon Powershot S95, Canon 6D,7D, Canon 40 2.8 STM, Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC, Canon 17-40 L, Canon 15-85, Canon 85 1.8, Sigma 30 1.4, 50mm 1.8, Canon 100 2.8L Macro, Canon 70-300L +Kenko 1.4 Pro 300DGX, Canon 430EX II and RS 4 Classic
