IS is only beneficial when you're using a low shutter speed and you're NOT using a tripod or another prop to hold the camera in place.

@ Rorschach : Thank You! i suppose i'll do fine with the non L version.

From the above discussion i guess i'll go in for the 18-55mm (Kit) and the EF 100mm Macro USM for now. :?
