My Panasonic FZ35 was stolen and I need to replace it. I enjoyed the camera, take pictures of my sons primarily at their sporting events. Lots of stills and lots of video. I am not particularly talented.

I was headed for a FZ40, but since I am back in the market, I am wondering whether anyone has an opinion whether the Canon SX30 IS or the FZ100 or anything else out there might be the better way to go.

What was wrong with the FZ35?

If you buy it now, it'll be cheap since the FZ45 and FZ100 are on the market.
As I said many times, I dont understand why you should want to spend a lot more money on a newer camera. The FZ35 is great and its image quality (IQ) is better than the FZ45's, even since the FZ45 has 2 more megapixels.
