Just wondering - where did you get this idea that I'd suggest the P7000 which is a high-end compact camera ? I didn't mention it at all :? ?!

I suggested looking at the Sony Alpha A580 (for the sake of clarity), not at the Nikon Coolpix P7000. I did compare the Alpha with the Nikon D7000.

I'm sorry to say, but it feels as if you completely missed the point of my previous post :?.

My mistake (or possibly you for not being clear :o ) but thought you were refering to the Canon Powershop A580

My apologies though.

I knew where he was going only by looking at his sigline and noticed he had a Sony - Yeah, there is a Canon A580 and it has happened before where super-zoom P&S have been recommended in place of DSLR. :)

...so OldCarlos, did you get to play with the D7000, what did you think and did you buy it?

I have now added Sony to my previous post, but I don't think there are many compacts offering 1050 shots battery life, 16.2 MP, very decent high ISO performance and a 5 fps burst mode at ful resolution in RAW which can be sustained for more than four seconds, are there :? ?!...if you get my point ;).

I'd never compare a compact camera to a DSLR as far as IQ is concerned - unless you'd consider large sensor mirrorless cameras like the NEX to be a compact camera...:)

JVdB, don't forget i'm relatively new to all this........+ I AM easily confused.

Howzit.
No, not in stock yet, my nearest dealer reckons it COULD be another 3 weeks yet! :( so i'll just have to TRY to be patient.

Even if I could buy sooner online, i'd rather wait until I can physically hold it & compare the feel with a couple of others.
Interestingly, another dealer has the D300s body at almost the same price :? http://www.wilkinson.co.uk/store/produc ... 266&page=1 Would you say it was a better camera?

The D300s is a much better camera but way too much camera for me - I'm a rookie like you. The 7D fits me better than the D300s so that's where I'd go but the 7D is also way too much camera for me.

I tried out the D7000 for about an hour and I could not get comfortable with it. To me the grip shape, thumb indent and grip materials did not seem much of an improvement over the D90. On the other hand I loved the way the 60D fitted - sculptured grip, thumb fitted perfectly and the grip material feels very good. In fact I was surprised how good the "plastic" felt.

Yeah, get one in-hand and see how it feels.

Cheers mate.
