Congrats on the new D7000 Aidan! It's a camera that anybody would enjoy, it has features that trickle down from many pro level cameras, while still keeping an easy to use interface combined with many features that consumers would like, such as video.

If you want a good lens for everyday shooting to go with your D7000, I'd recommend the Nikkor 16-85. It's one heck of a lens, you can't go wrong with it.

@ EvanK, yeah I heard this was a nice lens but with the budget I had and having a constant aperture of f/2.8 I ended with the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 OS.

Next is either Tokina 11-16mm for work (Real Estate) and then maybe a 70-200mm... just off to rob a bank to fund this...

What about the 35mm F1.8? That's always been a nice lens with positive reviews the majority of the time. It's not super wide, but it would be the perfect fast prime for everyday candids!

If you're looking for a good W/A, consider the Nikkor 10-24mm, it's a bit slow, but it's wonderful for W/A shots.

The 10-24mm is similar to the Tokina in regards to IQ?

Just got up to page 131 in the D7000 manual and I'm only half way and know I will have to re-read the manual again so I take it all in.

I'll post some shots but they are really just my first attempts with both the D7000 and a DSLR. Would I post in this section of the forum or somewhere else?

The 10-24 is very similar, they're both very similar. The Tokina is faster, so it's better for low light capabilities. Although, also note that the Nikkor will get you that nit wider plus it has the build in Nikon AF motor. Remember that sometimes third party lenses won't always work perfectly on newer cameras, for instance, as Ken Rockwell noted in his D7000 review the 105mm Sigma macro lenses don't work on the D7000, so it's a bit of a gamble when purchasing 3rd party. Personally, I'm a bit of a Nikon fanboy and only buy the Nikkor lenses, but these are fine choices.
