So what do you think? I really like the Panasonic L10 Free-Angle LCD as I'm using a KM A200 now. However, I saw the review and its IQ is not really any better the E-510.

Also, E-510 got IS. And the IS will work with Sigma 4-3 lens too right?
I won't use the telephoto very often, but it is always good to have a telephoto lens. Is the Sigma 55-200 ok to use with E510?

What will the price of this two sets compare?

Another question: How much more DoF do I get with a four-thirds system compare to a APSC-DSLR ? Can you give me some example.
I would really wanna take some photo with shallow DoF...is Sigma 30mm F1.4 a good option with either of this camera.

Thank you

Hi Wilfred, welcome to the Cameralabs forums!

I've not yet tested the L10, so can't comment on image quality, but I'm expecting it to be similar to the E-510 - albeit with different image processing.

As you suspect, it's a case of weighing up the prices and which features are most important to you - and of course which looks and feels best to you in person.

Yep, the E-510 has built-in IS which effectively stabilises any lens you attach, BUT you won't see the effect through the viewfinder (although you can preview it on-screen in Live View).

Yep, the L10 has a flip-out screen which helps with unusual angles AND it offers contrast-based focusing in live view which is a bit less clunky than other systems.

As for the 14-150mm, it's not yet been released as far as I know, and we're still not sure about a price. But it should come soon.

As for DOF, it inherently gets larger with smaller focal lengths, which as you know are typcially used with smaller sensors. So 14mm on a Four Thirds camera may give you the same '28mm' coverage as, say, 18mm on an APS-C camera, but the DOF will be greater on the former. There are other factors in play, but this rule is the main one as far as I understand.

So for a small DOF the key is to use lenses with very small focal ratios and or long focal lengths. I think even with the smaller sensor size though that you'd still get a nice small DOF using the 30mm f1.4...

Have a look in our Olympus forum too...

Gordon

Early reviews of the L-10 say that image quality is quite good.

Thank you Gordon and Graham for your reply.
I've checked the tag price for Leica 14-150 and L10 in Japan's Amazon(they are already selling it there for a few months) and convert it to pounds.

Leica 14-150: 170,000 Yan =744GBP

L10: 99800 Yan= 437GBP (874.95GBP in UK amazon!)

E510: 109400 Yan =479 GBP (549GBP in Jesshop)

Olympus 12-60: 91800 Yan=402GBP

Sigma 55-200:175000 Yan = 767GBP (110GBP for 4/3 mount in UK!)

This is price is just for reference of course. I am amazed how prices vary so much from country to country! And I'm also a bit jealous that Japanese can get most of the camera product cheaper and earlier than the whole world...

Depending on your exchange rate, it can be even cheaper in the USA right now...

For more information than you possibly ever wanted to know about DoF and focal length have a look about halfway down this page.

Bob.
