All Nikkor lenses that are branded as "AF-S" will auto-focus on the D40 (the D40 has no internal motor, but the AF-S lenses themselves do have a motor). For instance, the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED will auto-focus, while the AF Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D ED will not.
