which memory card should i buy

8GB 45mb/s
or
16GB 20mb/s?

I want to buy one good memory card so i don't have to think about that for a while.

20MB/s are quite a lot and personally I'd feel safer having more GBs. With my EOS 500D I have a 8GB card. That's OK but sometimes I reach the limit of it and that doesn't feel too good.

As well as the transfer speeds consider how much you will loose if the card fails or is lost. Would you prefer to carry/loose 2 x 8GB or 1 x 16GB?

Some people prefer to spread the data over more cards whilst others require the space (especially when shooting video).

Do you find yourself shooting (or wanting to shoot) in any formats that are data heavy?

e.g. High Def Video, RAW, RAW + JEPG or continuous shooting at a high frame rate?

Or are you considering doing any timelapse?

If your considering anything that needs the high data rate them be warned that you'll probably want the large storage too pretty quickly as by their very nature big files need high data rates to save them quickly AND take up loads of room

i have a 4gig scandisk extreme as my main card and also a load of cheap 4 gig ones. the extreme is a must for lots of continous shooting because it clears the buffer quicker and allows you to keep shooting.

just depends on how many shots you usually take, and whether you use continous shooting
