Somebody a few posts down asked if there is any performance difference between class 6 and class 10 in modern cameras.
However, i dont want to reply to that post, you will see later.
Today i got class 10 kingston, exactly it is Kingston SDHC 32GB class 10 ultimate x 100x
On blister, it says 20MB (yes, Bytes, not bits) per second read and 15MB/s write.
Before that i used GoodRAM 16GB class 6 SDHC card (i dont know any other details, i wanted to buy one more but could not find it anymore). Quite a decent card, i used it a lot also as a data carrier.
To make it even more interesting, i got what i believe is class 2 kingston 2GB SD card, classic non fast card.
Test one>
I took card, loaded into Canon 60D, captured 7 images in burst (raw and L fine quality) and after shooting last one i measured time until record LED turned off.
2GB- i did not make this test, it would take a looong time.
16GB class 6- it took 18 seconds until led turned off. Pretty slow actually
32GB class 10- it took 17 seconds. So there is a little advance, but not that much. I dont know if the limiting factor isnt the camera.
Test two>
Record HD video. Both of it went fine, 1920x1080 30i, without any stress.
Test three>
i took 700MB file, and looked for a write speed (in windows 7 explorer). Card reader was usb2 "active jet" brand, its pretty good.
2GB- 6.17MB/s average, 6.3 MB/s max.
16GB class 6- 9MB/s average, 9.17MB/s max
32GB class 10- 11.5MB/s average, 12MB max (not like 15MB/s claimed by Kingston)
So, between class 6 and class 10, there is not so much difference. What is interesting is that in windows card write test, it makes bigger difference than in camera.
Now - its your time. Take your card and make those simple tests. Lest find out actual performance for all cards.
The speed measuring is quite innacurate, it would want some specialized software for that, but i currently dunt have some.
One last thing - did you wondered how much images (raw and L fine) it can take? 951 vs 477!
