bought a second body today and wanted to pick up 3 - 8 gig extreme 3 cards and found out they were discontinued... at least so the store said..

picked up 3 sandisk extreme compact cards instead... anyone have any input on these? Supposedly they are a bit faster than extreme 4 cards.. at least in canon bodies? Apperantly they are a bit slower in nikon bodies than extreme 4s?

The claimed speed of the Extreme is faster than the Extreme IV while keeping lower in price. Not tried one yet though... I'm tempted to pick up a 16GB at some point as Extreme III is a bit slow for the 7D if you do long bursts.

thanks popo.. good to know about the extreme 3 in the 7D... will keep the 3 in the 50D then and use the extremes in the 7D... now if it would just stop snowing so I can take it out for a good go round.

I probably should clarify that, as I felt the Extreme III was limiting on the 50D too. When shooting raw bursts, the difference in speed clearing the buffer can be felt on the 50D comparing Extreme III and Extreme IV. The 7D has a bigger buffer which helps, but it still has to dump it onto card some time and clogs up all the same. If you use jpeg only then the card speed isn't so significant.
