We don't know that and you should probably provide some explanation as to why you think so. Personally I think that is quite unlikely for the purpose it is being developed. It would simply be useless then, and I don't think the scientists are so naive as to not have thought about that.

I wonder what the price of such a thing would be, more than most can afford probably.

Did you read the title of the thread, and did you read the article which I have linked to? The answer is there. So don't "wonder". In case you are too busy to read it, here's quote from the article:

Dr Chon says that the material cost of a disc would be less than $0.05 (£0.03), but there are a number of advantages in moving to silver nano-rods that would bring that cost down by a factor of 100.

Yeah i read it but no where in the article does it say how much a reader/writer will cost, that's why i said i wonder how much it will cost.

Well even the Blue Ray burners aren't that cheap currently. But we can only hope for the better. Things haven't particularly been bad so far ;)

So true, maybe why so many have not switched to blue ray on the Pc as of yet, most (myself included) are possibly waiting for the prices to drop. :)

Well, I personally think DVD's are already slow, especially burning. Now consider a DVD with a higher date density, hence having to be more precise, which will most likely result in "burning at the slowest rate" just like with DVD's.

I think the future is with SSD's, once they really start coming down in price like our harddrives did. :)
