i am looking for a reputable online storage site to start backing up all of my photos including the original raw files i was thinking about smugmug but i am open to suggestions

I use external harddrives.
Not real expensive and plenty of room.
Only ...I... can access them.

yeah i have several external drives and make triple copies of all of my raw files and post processed Jpegs. but in the event that something happens to my backup drives it would be nice to have offsite storage

Another off-site option, albeit a lower-tech one (!), is to ask a friend to look after a hard disk of data for you. If you're both high-tech enthusiasts, you could even host basic backup systems for each other and upload files to each other's places. I even once knew neighbours who did this at high speed using a length of ethernet cable running between their homes!

yeah i built my own little wireless network here i have an old PC in my basement with a 802.11n card and 6 external hard drives hooked up to it i use it as backup and a file server i have a PC i use for all of my editing and another i use for gaming that is connected to a high def tv i ripped most of my DVDs onto 2 of the drives and i stream them to my gaming pc and play the files using VLC media player. it is mostly rigged up this way because my children were destroying my dvds at an alarming rate lol the 802.11n network is plenty fast for streaming the ripped dvds which are completely uncompressed. i tried to run on a 802.11g network but it was too slow for streaming the video

Gordons idea is the best really. Off site storage is good, and that's a pretty cool way of doing it! But hard drives are cheap. You can get a TB of storage for about $100 now. Data is invaluable, so make sure you have it backed up.

At my house, all of my media can be accessed from anywhere in the house if I want it to. Wireless networking ftw.

same here .. all can be accessed anywher ein the house .. also got one pc set up as a server so can be access'dvia ftp from anywhere else in the world.

makes it easier when some one needs or wants somethin, they have a username and password that allows them to access a set folder on a drive from where ever they are

I hear amazon now has a good could storage solution. give them a try - I cant remember the name of there service off my head.
