Bought this guy off ebay and it looked to be a Hoya filter... indicated by the title... sorta. Anyway, I got it today and there's no mention on Hoya on the package or the filter.

It's a JYC PRO1-D "Super Slim Wide Band Protector"

what I wanted was a HOYA Super Slim UV Filter... what did I end up with?

Trevor

Yeah, probably is. Can you speak for the quality? How does it compare?

High Trevor,

I've no idea though I do note that apparently you do not have a UV filter as these are on this page.

Bob.

Well that sucks since even in the title it says that its a UV filter. I'm gonna try to get my money back. I'll let you know how it goes.

Im afraid they have clearly written "as Hoya" which in eBay terminology means "like but not Hoya" and just means that they pop up when you search Hoya.

True, but I could argue that it's not a UV filter as indicated by the ad?

Are you using this on digital? If so then UV doesnt really mean an awful lot in my experience and its only really good for protection anyway

Yes, using digital... I had another UV filter on it and was getting lens flare, which is why I wanted to go with a hoya... If this filter gives me issues, than i will try again. Can anyone speak for its quality?

Hmm... using the UV statement in the title seems to be the only real lever here. If you need a UV or not is irrelevant. The description body does seem accurate.

The price is of course way down from the Hoya equivalent. In a quick scan of the ebay description I don't see any mention at all of anti-reflection coatings. If that is the case, it likely wont be amongst the best in terms of flare prevention. Also note even if you have the best filter out there, it can still cause flare in cases compared to when there are no filter.

How about this guy, this what I'm looking for? There no mention of "anti-reflection coating" per se, but it does say "multicoated".

See this thread for my own little test in a selection of Hoya UV filters. To me, their UV(C) is great for the price.
