What are your opinions on this backpack http://www.caselogic.com/slr_camera_laptop_backpack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=138052&productid=1357947 ?
I found it in a store near me at 50 Euro. Would you buy one or would you go for an equivalent Kata backpack

Eh, to be honest it looks pretty darn cheap. The build quality I can tell the seams are going to come apart and the zippers.

I would never want to risk my gear like that.

but

Go to a store if you can that sells them and try it out... maybe i am wrong.

I would recommend the Lowepro Flipside 300.

The best thing to do is go to the shop and see the build quality for yourself.

Normally this would be YKK zippers (look on the zipper pulls) and double, bartack and/or "box and X" stitching on the stress points like the shoulder straps.

But don't think that a pack is bad because it has single stitching as they are many different types of sewing threads, some much stronger than others.

You should also pay attention to loose stitching. If there is a loose thread and you can dismantle the stitching then stay away.

When looking at nylon fabrics the toughest are Cordura and Ballistic nylon.

1050 Denier ballistic nylon is better than 1680 Denier. Cordura is more resistant to abrasion and I believe 1000D is the best cordura denier.

For a heavy backpack to be comfortable it should have a waist strap so you can carry most of the load on your waist (avoiding back pain) and a sternum strap so the shoulder straps stay in place and don't ride on the outside of your shoulders.
