 Post subject: Using multiple filters
PostPosted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 8:55 pm
I have a Canon 7D fitted with a EFS- 17-85mm lens. For protection of this lens it was suggested to me to fit a UV filter which I was informed should stay on the lens at all times.

I have recently purchased a CIR-Polarizing filter and I was wondering if, when using the polarizing filter, I must first remove the UV filter. Or, can I just screw the polarizing filter over the UV filter.

I take my UV filter off when putting the polarizer on, just my opinion less glass in front of the lens element is better. I don't know if its of any benefit though, and it is probaly easier to just put the polarizer on the UV.

Thanks for the information. If the UV doesn't make any difference, for the sake of convenience then I will leave it on when using the polarizing filter. Unless of course, someone suggests/recommends otherwise.

I leave the UV filter on. If your filters are of good quality, then they should not degrade the quality of your pictures.

The thing to consider when stacking filters together is vignetting. With the UV and CPL filter, I start to have vignetting at about 22mm with my canon 7D. If I use the slim UV filter, then I can push both filters up to about 17mm before seeing some vignetting.
