I think this is the best place to put this, i want to bike out of town to take some pictures, but my backpack i ordered isn't in yet, so i was going to attach the tri pod to the very back with string and have inside the main component my dslr with lens attached covered and surrounded by clothes, I'm referring to a normal backpack .

Against casual/normal friction type of impacts, that should be fine.

I assume you are talking about a bicycle and not a motorbike here. To increase the chances of "gear survival", I would recommend that you do not pack the camera with the lens attached. The lens-mount will take the brunt of the force and it is a vulnerable point on a camera.

A normal backpack with clothes in it, will protect your camera better than a regular photo-backpack. Only hard cases will truly protect your gear. The photo-backpacks are more designed for convenience through their use of compartments.
