I was talking with a mate about using the Spyder colour calibrator on my monitor. He went the i-Mac route last year & bought a 27" & he says he won't ever need to colour calibrate his monitor. Something about it being in-built?
Surely every monitor over time (however long that is) will need checking? :?

If he has the same lighting in the room and wears the same reflectivity of clothing when sitting in front of the machine then maybe he would not need to calibrate the monitor. However, thee external factors (clothing and lighting) will to some extent change things. You may also find with auto brightness on things will look different.

To be sure things are the same every time you use a monitor then a calibration tool may help.

Here are some other views on the subject
