A final wrap up on the Philips monitor...
From time of reporting I chased at 2 weeks and as nothing had happened, after a month I called again. Normally they will drop off a replacement monitor while picking up the dead one, but as that wasn't possible this dragged on longer than it needed. First they said the same as before, no stock. Given the time it has been, I asked were they ever going to get stock. After a bit of checking on their end they offered to pick up the monitor for repair. If that wasn't possible in a reasonable time they'd replace with alternate model. So on Tuesday it got picked up. Today I got a box back, containing what appears to be the repaired monitor. Firing it up it seems to be working fine again. When they got to repair, that moved fast though.
Now all I have to do is decide what I'm going to do with it, seeing as I got a replacement while waiting... I'm seriously wondering about going back, as I prefer the image of the old one. I think I prefer the (uncalibrated) brightness and colours over the size and resolution of the new one. But if I did that, what do I do with the new one? It's one expensive HDTV... and no, I've never been into dual monitors.
