hey everyone
so i install the software i got with my beautiful sony a200 (picture motion browser, image data lightbox and image data converter)..
i know i'm new to this world but all i want to do is crop pics, mess about with contrast, colours etc but the packaged software is a waste of time..
do i need to shoot RAW to be able to do these simple things? i'm just a few weeks into my camera and only shooting jpeg fine
as a newbie i'm pretty sure i shouldn't spend the cash on photoshop even though it seems to be top dog.
is my packaged software any use at all if i'm shooting jpeg?
or should i change to shooting RAW?
sorry for being such a newbie-newbie..

JPEG can do everything RAW can do, RAW just does it better. Your software should be able to do all that. RAW is especially useful for exposure adjustment, WB and sharpening.

Shoot in RAW. You can do most of your RAW editing using Image Data Converter that came on your camera's CD. If you want, you can invest in Photoshop Elements which is cheaper and does a fair bit too.

I've found JPEGs to be a real waste of your camera's potential, but that's my personal opinion.
