I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but can someone explain what the difference is between "managing" photos and 'editing them? I'm new to digital photo editing, and although I've seen these terms in many posts, their exact meanings eludes me...

Managing photos is simply how you store them. Editing photos is anything from changing the colours to photoshopping out elements of the photo you don't want in it.

As above..

For example I MANAGE my photo's in a program called adobe lightroom. it allows me to import photo's from my camera with the software and stores the photo's in a folder layout. I can then look through all my photo's by year>event and can also tag and search.

Adobe lightroom also lets me EDIT my photo's once i switch to develpe mode. i can change colours, exposure brightness etc.. I can then also export them into a different image editor program like photoshop if i wish.
