For some reason, I cant view thumbnails in any folders I open - I just see the irfanview icon for all associated image files! Regardless of which 'View' I choose, there is no preview of the images.

I like Irfanview, as it so quick to open and display images, but it is starting to get on my nerves a bit now....

Any ideas on how to rectify this - or any (similarly fast) alternatives to Irfanview?

I sometimes use Faststone (freeware) to quickly view images. It has some basic editing and conversion capabilities too. I haven't used Irfanview in Vista (only XP) but I'm temporarily on a Vista PC and I downloaded Faststone (short download) to have something other than Microsoft Photo Editor. :P

Give it a go and see what you think.

Hi Rex,

I have IrfanView 4.1 running here under Vista x64 and don't have that problem except, of course, when the View Preference is set to small icons. Maybe it would be an idea to uninstall IrfanView to restore the default Vista associations and then install IrfanView once more. The latest version is 4.2 and can be found here.

Here is a list of the changes in v4.2

Thanks for the replies guys....

Mark - DL'd the prog and 1st impressions look good if I cant sort out Irfanview......or even if I do!! Hmmmmm

Bob - I'm using 4.2 atm....kinda hoped it might sort out the issue by updating from my older version (but no joy... )

I'll try uninstalling it as you say - see if that does the trick. It was going to be my last attempt to rectify it anyhow, but after trying Marks recomendation for a couple of mins, it looks promising if it won't 'un-glitch' itself :)

Does it change if you uncheck JPG (and JP2 too perhaps) in Options>Properties/Settings>Extensions ?

Well I sorted out the issue with the thumbs not was a checkbox in Folder/Search options ticked - "Always show icons not thumbnails"!! Easy when you find out the culprit - can't remember ever checking that option but I guess I must've at some point (prolly after one beer too many one night... :D )

But thanks to Marks suggestion, I now have a new default image viewer.....thanks Mark - cracking little prog - and best of all, like Irfanview it's Free :P

It's deffo worth a donation to the devopers - I always like to show appreciation with a donation for worthy software - and this IS one of those cases.

Thanks again for the pointer
