Adobe have released Lightroom 2 including many new feature:

Local adjustment brush
Enhanced organizational tools
Volume management
Extensible architecture
Multiple monitor support
Flexible print package functionality
Streamlined Photoshop CS3 integration
Enhanced output sharpening
64-bit support for Windows® and Mac OS

I know a lot of people have been waiting for multiple monitor support but to me the most important new features are the improvements to local adjustments and, in beta form, support for camera specific profiles available to download here. The custom profiles are designed to emulate the manufacturer’s own conversions and picture styles.

I've moved back to Lightroom after spending some time with the Aperture demo. Must say, I prefer how Lightroom operates, particularly for managing images. It's far less complicated. New version seems tidy enough although I've not explored it properly. I did notice that you still can't select images by focal length or specify custom metadata outside a number of set options.

Why can I choose from ALL metadata, Adobe?

The spot editing is really sophisticated. A big improvement over LR1.

You can kind of do a search for say "75mm" but that will search ALL data that contains 75mm and you can't seem to create a smart collection of photos that contain 75mm. It's rather annoying.

i want to try out the trial version... would i be able to do a roll-back to 1.4 incase i don't want 2.0? (my machine might not be fast enough to run it stable)... or would i have to re-install 1.4?

Not sure if you can roll back. I'd assume you can't. Just make a duplicate of your lightroom catalogue and use that. Your original images won't be touched.

i must say i'm impressed... by the fact that it runs quite a bit faster than 1.4

i'm glad that the layout changes are so minimal... nothing i hate more than having to refamiliarise myself with upgraded software

... also my photos seems brighter/clearer now... but that could just be me
