The Raw plug in for the 40D from what I am reading on Adobe's site is not compatible with versions of Photoshop before CS2, you will have to upgrade to CS3(££££$$$$) to be able to use it, however, you could use the DPP software that shipped with your camera just to convert to a Tiff file then process them in your version of photoshop.

and you can always use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert your CR2 files into the DNG format, which is Adobe's "native" RAW file. DNG files are typically smaller than TIFF. From memory Adobe are already talking up Photoshop CS4 so now may not be a good time to spend money upgrading to CS3.

Bob.
