 Post subject: Lightroom help please
PostPosted: Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:52 pm
I was working with my lightroom programme, looking at my wedding photos, my wife said they where not on the hard drive of the computer. So, I found the wedding album on lightroom and then 'exported as catalogue' everything in lightroom has disappeared, apart from the wedding album. I'm trying to get back all my albums. Can you please tell me how to do this?

Paul

Try to find the files by searching for their names on your hard-drive first. Just to make sure you were not hit by a catastrophe!

When I exported the pictures I exported them into a folder in " My Pictures " called Wedding and I named it " The Big Day".
I thought I was only exporting the wedding pictures but Everything has moved from Lightroom.
I cannot seem to get the pitures I had in lightroom back again though they are still on my computer. Do I have to import the lot again!

Well, so everything is still there, congratuliations!
Export as catalogue means that you have also all the meta-data exported. So there should also be a *.lcat file somewhere (most probably in the my pictures folder). Just open it with the "open catalogue" command from LR and what you ex√ľorted should be accessible again from LR.
Hope that helps.

Hi Thomas,

I have got it I think? I opened LR then File then Most Recent and I had two choices Lightroom Catalog.Ircat and The big day.Ircat
I opened the first and there they are :D This has confused me somewhat though.
What exactly did I do? I will have to find out.

If the file can be seen in Lightroom, right click on an image and select "open in explorer" which should show you the location of the file in windows explorer.

This isn't entirely connected but I believe it's useful nonetheless.

The very first thing you should do after uploading your images to your computer is to back them up. Make copies, preferably on a seperate physical drive. Lightning rarely strikes twice...

Actually, for reference, if you do a lot of editing you'll find it all goes more smoothly if you only use the source images which are on a drive which does not also contain your OS. RAM works so much better this way, to say nothing of disk access times.
