CS4 will be 32-bit for Macs and 64-bit for Windows.
This is due to Apples decision to drop Carbon 64-bit support in favor of Cocoa 64-bit support.
This means Adobe having to rewrite potentially millions of lines of code for Photoshop CS4 and it's plug-ins.
He did mention however that he believes that full 64-bit support will arrive with CS5 (nice to know Adobe are planning far ahead!).

Now this is a bit of a letdown, but there a few positives to draw from this.
- John Nack (an employee of Adobe who broke this story) states that they began working on the transition from Carbon to Cocoa immediately after the announcement from Apple, but won't be able to deliver this by the release of CS4. MEANING, that CS4 is a lot closer than we all think (my bets are on October of this year).
- Secondly, the 64-bit version will only see a 8-10% speed increase which will only be evident with a ludicrous amount of RAM (32GB as a given example).
[Actually, that positive only applies to Mac users who are missing out.

Im sticking to my CS3 extended, usually i don't notice a real difference in the programs until there has been a couple of leeps like Photoshop 7 and CS2.

Besides that program wasnt cheap :S

its quite nice that they keep the software going, even tho i never full used any of the photoshops, i just hope they keep and improve some older ones!
