Hi all
I have been trying for a while now to get shots onto airliners.net but keep being rejected. My main problem is they want the photo reduced to 1056x680ish pixals.
When I do this the picture loses all its sharpness, I have tried different tutorials to fix this but no joy, any advice?

What kind of editing does your original have?
Did you shoot RAW and sharpen in post? Or are you taking a SOOC JPEG and down-scaling it?
Which program are you using to do your resizing?

Maybe the trick is to apply a curve? Personally I'd apply a gentle "S" curve (Photoshop, 2 selection points, input 63 dropped to output 48 and input 190 increased to output 198 was my first attempt) which has the effect of giving the aircraft more punch without altering the sharpness at all.

Sorry should of added I use Photoshop elements and use raw files.
One guide I found said to edit before downsizing the photo and apply sharpening after. Another trick I was told was to use the "save for web" option for reducing the size. The photo was shot at 4288 x 2848.

When I edit in Lightroom (basically the same as Adobe Camera RAW), I apply sharpening to the image, and then during the export I downsize and apply the level of sharpening for the output intent AKA for web @ 72dpi or print on matte paper @ 300dpi. These options probably exist within Elements... how much sharpening were you applying? And which method? Unsharp Mask is a good way of doing it but I'm not familiar with Elements at all - does that command exist?

And as Bob said, adding some contrast to the image with curves might also help to improve the apparent sharpness of the image, but I wouldn't rely on that solely
