So, i got my hands on Adobe Master Suite which has PhotShop, Elements, and Lightroom. I know PhotoShop, u can correct photos but you can do all the cutting, croping and drawing as well. If my main thing is correcting photos; colors, sharping, basic croping, which program am ilooking to use. I've mostly been doing basic stuff in GIMP but I'm ready to move forward into more advanced stuff and want to get some books but want to make sure I'm going in the right direction. Hope I gave you enough info to help

i go for lightroom. very easy to use and powerfull. photoshop allows you to do more though but can be harder to use, for best results use lightroom and photoshop

I've used Photoshop for donkey's years but as soon as I started shooting in RAW I found it much better to work in Lightroom to do all the standard PP it's also a great workflow now I have thousands of photo's to catalogue and never look at again. I just use Photoshop to do all the fancy stuff

Since you got them anyway, use them and see what works for you.

Side note: doesn't make sense to include Elements if you get the full version anyway. In quick looking up, I think that's a word typo, should be Premiere I think?

Yeah, like popo said, something's not right. CS5 Master Collection (which I own) doesn't include Lightroom. (I also own Lightroom 3, BTW.) In fact, I'm not aware of any bundle that includes both Photoshop (or Elements) and Lightroom.

That said, if you need a tool to catalog and process thousands of images quickly, that's Lightroom. Say you're a wedding photographer and you shot 500 photos last weekend, you'll probably shoot 500 more this weekend, and 500 more the weekend after that. Further, let's say your assistant messed up at the last shoot and all 100 of the shots s/he took are underexposed. That's a quick fix in Lightroom; in Photoshop, not so much. (Yeah, I know there's Bridge, but let's not go there just yet.)

However, if you need a tool to do detailed work--i.e. layers, masks, filters--on a few specific images (e.g. there's another thread in this section of the forum titled "Help blending 2 images!"), that's Photoshop.

A couple of other quick notes:

1) Lightroom 3's noise reduction is awesome! I get acceptable results faster than I do with Photoshop and Noise Ninja or Topaz Denoise.

2) There are rumors that the next version of Lightroom may include cloud support.

Sorry, yeah I have Master Edition and got ahead of myself, I don't have Lightroom. I hadn't really got into the software package yet except Illustrator for some graphics work.

I was shopping for books and started reading a how-to on Lightroom and thought it had come with the package so I was wondering which to use to get the correct book. Oh well, I guess I will be working with Photoshop

Hi Mike,

Looks like you're set then. My own workflow starts in Canon's DPP which I use to initially weed out the bad shots, correct for Canon's own lens aberrations and then to convert from RAW. I run that conversion as a batch process which then opens the exported TIFF files in Adobe Bridge. From there I can open them in Adobe's Camera RAW where I do the bulk of the processing. Final tweaks can then be applied by opening the images in PhotoShop. Sounds more complicated than it is because each program starts the next one when you click on the appropriate button.

Martin Evening's guides are an excellent reference. I own CS4 so I bought "Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers: The Ultimate Workshop" and it was a revelation.

Thanks Bob, I'll look into that ref. I have Adobe Photoshop, Classroom in a Book, but have heard less than the best reviews on this series of books. Haven't cracked it open yet though.

To be honest, i also used lightroom, but...

now i use picasa (and with a little help from canon eos software). Fiddling with all those settings is giving me a headache, plus picasa is much quicker and simpler use (with upload to google account )the only thing i used lightroom instead of picasa is adding a watermark and scaling all images to custom resolution, buti have worked that out so i'm not using LR anymore... but once in a time, who knows.

i never used photoshop (really, i must be the only one on the forum ), because i did not needed to. Now there would be some question like "why you need photoshop, you dont like reality?", but that would sound kinda strange ... So i just ask - how did you managed without if until now?
