I am running Aperture 3 (in 32-bit mode, as I wanted to use some existing plugins) and I am finding it increasingly sluggish in doing most anything. (I switched from iPhoto to Aperture about 3 months ago, so I'm still in the learning curve).

For instance, when viewing pictures (fullscreen) within a project, the "loading..." notice persists for several seconds and there's about a 5 second delay between pushing the right arrow and the next photo loading (and the spinning beach ball appears with some regularity as well).

My system:
MacBookPro5,1
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.53 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB

Just curious if it's time to upgrade (maybe to something new and exciting announced later today), or if this just just "operating as designed".

Thanks for your thoughts....

This is most likely a harddrive issue, switching to an SSD should make quite an improvement. It could also be the processor (it most likely has to render the file from raw), but your current setup should be sufficient for half a year or so.

Aperture 3 is generally very slow and use a lot of recourses compared to Lightroom 3.

I have used Aperture 3 since i got my mac but switched to Lightroom 3 1 month ago.

Why?
1. Much faster editing in LR 3. (uses A LOT less recourses)
2. Aperture 3 kept crashing all the time.
3. I liked the interface a bit better. (personal)

MacBook Pro
Intel i7, 2.66 Ghz
4GB RAM
500GB 5400RPM HDD
