Phew, I'm dumbstruck: I worked on a jpg image and added some text to it in Corel's PaintShop Pro X3. That is put automatically in a new layer on top of the background and everything looks beautifully.
Surprise came when I printed the composition: Only the background layer with the jpg was printed, no text
Only after I collapsed all layers together did the text show in print. but that cannot be the correct way to get there.
With my trusty old PSP 7 everything would (naturally) print without any further action.

Who can help me?

Im a complete editing noob Im afraid, and dont even own a copy of photoshop...

But in GIMP I know that it will only print the layers which you have selected to be visible in the preview window.

Ie if you are only viewing one layer with the others hidden and press print, it will only print that one layer.

Just something to check, like I say I dont really know how all this stuff works! Hopefully somebody comes along now and helps more.

Yeah, I had thought of something like this too.
But I could see all the text-overlays in the preview window.
But to no avail

What does clicking 'print preview' look like?

Hmm, seems like it is a specific printer-problem: Everything printed alright on my other printer coupled directly through USB to my Win7 machine.
The first which refuses to print the text is addressed via a networked computer running XP.
But PSP 7 printed in the same setup perfectly...

Well, this is one of the things I hate about computers: I just took my laptop from the network and marched over to my primary printer - the one that refused to print the text-overlays. Connected via USB and it happily printed all text-overlays.
Then I connected the printer back to the printer-server, went back to my LAN cable, connected the laptop to the LAN and printed the same file via the printer-server, and guess what? Now it worked flawlessly too
So the exact same setup that before refused to work properly now worked without a hitch.

But during my tests PSP X3 did not left the most stable impression. In the few days I tried it out I had more hang-ups of this software than with all the other software on my computer since months
Perhaps it's not the most bug-free piece of program...
