Greetings all,

I am just getting started in to the exciting world of processing my pictures.

However, I am getting a bit frustrated with the barrage of options available, talk about not being able to see the wood for the trees.

Simply put, I have a 50D and shoot in both RAW & JPEG. I want to be able to view all these images once downloaded from my camera with the minimum amount of fuss and use a software package that is fully compatible. I do have PSE6 but, have been told it is outdated?

With PSE 6 a also have to mess around with DNG etc etc.

Advice pse

If you want the minimum amount of fuss, don't bother with RAW and just shoot JPEG. If you're just starting out in photography, you're likely to be better off shooting JPEG.

RAW files are all proprietary, meaning that they will require special software or codecs to view. DNG is just a more standards compliant RAW format, there are only two camera manufacturers whose cameras support generating DNG files directly and these are Leica and Pentax. With other cameras, you can always use Adobe's DNG converter to convert your RAW files to DNG. This is yet another step in your workflow.

If you want to spend more time taking photos than faffing around on a computer, shoot JPEG.
