Hey guys,

I recently picked up and ported all my stuff over to a MacBookPro. I'm already crazy about it, but one of the few software issues I've been having is with my RAW converter... Pentax Photo Laboratory. The program itself appeared to download properly, but every time I try to open a PEF file with the program it closes unexpectedly and asks me if I'd like to try and restart. I downloaded the latest update from the Pentax website (specific for Mac OS X) but it didn't help. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue or something to do with the way pics are stored in iPhoto.

I shoot exclusively in RAW (at least I will until I get a Nikon D300), so it's important for me to have something usable. Anyway, I'm used to the way Pentax Photo Lab is set up, but I'm not opposed to learning a new program. What is the best, free RAW converter out there for Mac OS X? I say free because I'm not up for dropping a few hundred bucks on Aperture or Lightroom.

Will Adobe Photoshop Elements do it? What are my alternatives? I just want something that's inexpensive (preferably free), easy to get, and easy to use.

Thanks!

Photoshop Elements comes with ACR, which is the same RAW engine that's found in Lightroom. The main difference is that Lightroom claims to be easier to work with.
