This afternoon I had the unpleasant experience of being unable to start Adobe Bridge under Vista x64. The faulting module was "cooltype.dll".
Starting Bridge with the Ctrl and Shift keys pressed allowed me to reset the preferences but, as before, once the program Window was open and pretty much fully drawn I got the "Adobe Bridge has stopped working" message once more.
Microsoft's "Problem Reports and Solutions" suggested downloading the latest copy of Adobe Reader. That wasn't helpful as the latest update was installed this morning following a prompt by the Adobe Updater.
Maybe the installation got corrupted so I uninstalled Reader and installed a freshly downloaded copy. Started Bridge and got, yes - you've guessed it, "Adobe Bridge has stopped working".
The solution was to do a "System Restore" to yesterday's check point which was, of course, completed prior to today's Adobe Update.
Maybe this experience was just bad luck but I've created this thread just in case anyone else is equally unlucky. The nuisance is that there is a serious security issue with Reader 9.1.2, which is what I've now reverted to, but it is just possible that the 9.1.3 fix was what broke Bridge on my computer.
