Camera Labs

Hi guys,

recently I've been thinking that it is hight time I got some support for that camera of mine (Canon 40D) I have never had a tripod or monopod so I am really lost. Which one do you think is better:

1\ fairly good monopod
2\ crapy tripod

I am considering self standing monopods like Manfrotto 682B. What do you think about it? I have a budget of 150-180$ Can you make some suggestions in that money range.

What I am looking for in a tripod\monopod is:
- stable
- light (I'm a woman i cannot really carry that much)
- to support at least 2kg (better up to 4kg)
- to be high enough for me (I'm 173cm) without the central column extended


Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you get to pick only one, then take the tripod. A crappy tripod will be more stable then the best monopod, mainly because a monopod isn't really meant to be used a stable support. Any exposures longer than 1/2s and maybe even faster are likely to show the effects of shake.

You could always extend one of the tripod's legs and use it as a makeshift monopod. Not quite the same but it gets the job done.
