I was reading some of Gordon's reviews on Ball Heads, clamps, and Kirck Ent. Arca Swis stuff and noticed they sell the Plate Clamps in different widths from 1 inch to 4 inchs. What are the reasons or advantage to having a longer clamp? I know a longer one gives you some movement but if the clamp is marked with the center line and your plate has a center line mark, if you line those 2 up why would you need any other side to side movement?
