I recently jumped the gun and bought a mount from The Gadget Works so that I can create gigapixel panoramas and simple time lapse photography.

I was deciding between three different companies and models but went with the AutoMate because it has such an attractive price compared to the other two.

The AutoMate is $400

Kolor's Panogear is $800

GigaPan's is around $900


Writing down some pros and cons. I'm not really happy with the Auto Mate right now, I bought the optional PDA to program the pano head because the program only runs on Windows. I still don't have the hang of it but so far I'm not happy with the range of motion on this thing and to me I don't like the hassle of having to use this old PDA to set up my sessions.

I have 30 days to return it for a full refund but I'm still trying to figure out if I should just stick with this and try harder to understand and make it work well for me or if I should just reconsider one of the other two units.
