Hi I have a Nikon D 700 + 24-70 mm lens weighs approx 2KG
Can you give me an Idea which tripod would be best suitable
as I don't want to finish with one which topples over, and want
to be able to point the camera at the ground while it's on the tripod

Do you want to take it hiking?
have a read of Gordon`s review, check out all the links too. For what its worth I have a 190cxpro4 and it handles a 7D, 70-300L, flash and head easy enough. That is easily a few of kilos.

Manfrotto - carbon fibre or aluminium - 4 part legs. Packs away nice and small (relatively) and you have a choice of two heights

Don't let the pricepoint of the vanguard's fool you either. They're a high quality competitor of the Manfroto, but for 2/3 to 3/4 the price. I chose one over the Manfroto and I'm very happy with my decision. I chose the Alta Pro 263AT with the SBH-100, but I would have perhaps upgraded to the SBH-250 and likely will in the future as my lenses become heavier.

I myself use the Manfrotto 055ProB plus matching 808RC4 head (see here) for gear up to 3kg without fear for the equipment.
