I’ve been taking photo’s forever, but never had a tripod. I’d more than love experienced advice
I’ll keep it simple and to the point as possible.
Never owned tripod before. My life is pretty much travel. This time round, I’m currently paused for 8-9 months for work/cash, in the middle of a 3 year journey.
(Caribbean (2008) --> South America (2008) --> UK (2009 to work) --> Middle-East (2010) --> Africa (2010). I travel very poorly and very rough.
My Kit the Tripod will support:
Canon EOS 40D Body
Tamron 17 - 55mm Lens
Total Weight: 1256g (2.76lbs)
- Needs to be really light, 1.3kg or under (2.9lbs). (MOST IMPORTANT).
(As it’ll be on my back for a year possibly, and I’ll be going for numerous 1 – 2 week long hikes in mountains with alot of other equip).
- Needs to fold up small
(needs to be concealed at times, fit under bus seats & elsewhere).
- I’m not sure about this one; I really wouldn’t like to spend over $150 USD! (I’m poor & saving remember)
(...is this possible?, what about some of the choices I found below)
785b Modo Maxi w/ Ball head
7303YB w/ Ballhead
7322YB w/ Ballhead
Ultra Maxi-L w/ 3-way pan/tilt head
- $129 (Thinking this could be a possible candidate??)
Ultra LUXi-L w/ 3-way Pan/Tilt head
Sprint Pro II w/ 3-Way Panhead
Sprint Pro II GM w/ Ballhead
As you can see I'm kind of favouring that Velbon as it will support my kit, fold up nice and small and can extend to a reasonable height. (but then again, they all kind of do?) Are Velbon comparable to Slik & Manfrotto?
...or simply is $150 not enough, and I 'should' be splashing out on a carbon fibre. (keep in mind the weight).
