Hi everyone,

Another Parker/Carboni starry scene for your enjoyment. This time it's Kemble's Cascade and the little open cluster NGC1502 in that well-known constellation Camelopardalis.



This was taken with the little Takahashi Sky 90 and the SXVF-M25C one-shot colour camera. Total exposure time just under 4 hours.

Another cracker.

As so often with your posts I was motivated to find out a little more. The content won't be news to you, of course, but Wikipedia has a nice little write up about Kemble's Cascade here. So, it's just a chance alignment of unrelated stars. Very beautiful, nonetheless.

Coincidentally, it appears, according to this Space Daily article, that the SEGUE survey has thrown up a number of new streams of related stars where gravitational tides induced by the Milky Way have apparently shredded a number of dwarf galaxies that got too close.

Hi Bob,

What really gets me with this one is that it wasn't reported until 1980!!! Can you believe that??? I want to report an asterism that doesn't seem to be listed anywhere - just like Kemble's cascade. This one is called Greg's Charm Bracelet.

Get a pair of low power binoculars (10 x 50 are fine) and take a look at the Double Cluster in Perseus. There is a chain of stars like a bracelet and the Double Cluster hangs off the bottom of the bracelet like a charm. The bracelet is not apparent on planetarium software, or on star charts. Like Kemble's Cascade - it seems to need the Brain/Eye system doing some image processing for it to stand out. No idea why this should be so.
