Hey everyone,

I have a Celestron 130EQ telescope (reflector) and a t-adaptor and t-ring to attach my 350D to it. When I go through the telescope's focus range everything is a blur. The prime focus is inside the focus tube (too far from the camera image sensor) I need to extend the focus up to the camera.

One thing I'm looking at is a barlow lens, which will multiply the zoom (but more importantly move the focal point), the t-adaptor has no lens to move the focal point, I'm thinking the barlow lens will, but I'm a newbie at astrophotography I'm not sure if that'll work.

anyone have any similar experience? Anyone know if I'm on the right track or headed for disaster?

Hi iamtakeo,

May I wish you a warm welcome to the CameraLabs forums.

Although you own a Canon I think you are most likely to get best advice in the Technical and scientific photography forum so I've moved your question here.

I have no experience with your type of telescope so all I can suggest is that a Barlow lens might solve your problem but you would need to check the optical specifications to make sure. Case 3 on this TeleVue page refers.

The only caution I would offer is that on my TeleVue refractor exactly the opposite situation applied. Once I had removed the eyepiece assembly and fitted my camera the focal plane was actually behind the sensor at maximum draw-tube extension so I had to invest in an extension tube.
