M56 - the globular lost in the Milky Way background by cybermystic, on Flickr

Hyperstar III image - processing by Noel Carboni. The globular cluster M56 is almost lost in the Lyra Milky Way background.

Amazing work as usual Greg.

I don't get to see even a tiny proportion of the number of stars in that image when I look at the whole of the night sky from here (assuming it's not raining!).

That's the difference between the Mk1 eyeball and the CCD :D I spent 2 years visually observing through the C11 before I put a CCD on. When I saw from the very first CCD image how many more stars you get in the field of view compared to what you see through the same optical setup - I never went back to an eyepiece. Not actually "looked" through any of my scopes since 2004 :(
