Actually managed to get some new data last night, so this is the last Registar composite on old data for a while. I had tons of data on the Pelican nebula including Hyperstar III data on the Pelican alone. Registar put it all together and this is what came out - fairly deep by all accounts. You know you've gone deep on the Pelican when you can see the vertical bars on the wing :D

Hi Greg,

Nice shot. It prompted me to have another look at my ultra wide-field shot of the area (this post) and even at the much reduced scale of your image above I'm running at exactly a 100% crop with this comparison:

Hα nebulosity was from 5 x 1000 second exposures. The stars were from 3 x 200 second exposures for each of R, G and B.
Images captured with my 165mm focal length f/2.8 Pentax MF lens and an FLI ML16803 camera.

For this version I went back to the original data and reprocessed from scratch. In particular I was able to apply some PixInsight wavelets processing which looks terrible over the full image but doesn't work too badly over this much more restricted field of view. I guess I can make an excuse for myself that the image above is a 100% crop and so I'd be lucky to get a similar level of detail. That said I think I still have a way to go in honing my processing skills to bring out more fine detail without getting too artificial a look. So thanks, Greg. You provided me with an entertaining Sunday afternoon and you've given me the goal of seeing how much improvement I can manage when I finally bring my telescope to bear on this subject. With six times the focal length resolution shouldn't be an issue but imaging at f/7 means I'm going to have to spend a lot longer capturing data than I needed at f/2.8!

You're welcome :D You will find imaging at f#7 unbelievably tiresome, most of my Pelican data was shot at f#2 (Hyperstar). Imaging with the Sky 90 at f#4.5 borders on just about acceptable.
