It can be used as a tripod but it would be a very expensive one and really best suited for that use.

It seems you are struggling with what you would like to do so I would suggest going back to basics. Get into photography a bit more first, by magazine, read books, surf the internet. Get used to how the camera functions and how you respond to using it.

I would then suggest that you get the book I mentioned and use a regular photographic tripod and your camera with lenses attached. Take short subs (30s max) and stack them together in something like Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) - which is free. Search the internet for DSS there are some great tutorials and help pages on how to use it and what it does.

See how you get on with that before you spend the money on a telescope mount and / or telescope.
