Guess there was a massive solar storm on the sun today... largest in 2 years. This means that wednesday night and thursday night have the potential of huge northern light displays... I've never tried photographing them but those living in northern climates may want to look to the north and try to capture it if it happens

Nice news, but I can be sure of two things: unless it is a really big one, it wont be visible as far down as where I am. If it is visible, there will be cloud cover anyway.

I'll be looking.
Got the Bay right behind the house here to the north.
Calling on clear/cold skies.
Only problem might be finding a way to turn the lighthouse off for a bit un noticed.
They tend to get a bit upset at that for some strange reason, especially the mariners.

Jeesh!!

You got that right!!!!

Apparently a solar flare of X2.2 the largest one since 2006 with a big CME.

Id love to see an aurora here.

Just stuck my head outside. Patchy cloud. The moon is out and very bright too. Unless the aurora is strongly coloured I doubt I'll see anything between light pollution and moonlight.

Tomorrow I will be driving 300 miles north on work, so if skies remain clear I might have a better chance there.

our forecast is cloudy so not much luck here... friend of mine flying to whitehorse today to try and catch it there... should be absolutely amazing up there as they get displays every 2 days or so on average anyways.

0200 here now and clear skies all evening/night....NOTHING!!!
Of course someone forgot to pack his tripod which is normally in the Jeep anyway so it's 200km from here anyway
Weather lady discussed it tonight and said Friday/Saturday was going to be the best??
Has to be...forecast calls for overcast skies here :(

if it is fri or sat sounds like we may be clear.. cool

sounds like it caused some issues in china today... they now say within the next 24 - 48 hours as far as a lightshow.
