I've finally been able to test the 500L on the Moon tonight and it is really a great lens ;)

Iso 100 , f/4 , 1/800 sec.

Thats amazing, im still confused which aperture I should be using I see some people's pictures like yours at f/4 really sharp and others saying at f/11 its the sharpest. Just trial and error I suppose.

Actually the f/11 for the Moon is a rule of thumb , but some lenses perform very well wide open , and this concern almost all long telephoto I tried ( 300 f/2.8 IS , 500 f/4 IS , 600 f/4 IS ) , the 400 f/4 DO aside . Some zoom perform very well also , like the 70-200 f/4 IS , here an exemple :

As you can see in the exif here , this shot was taken at f/4 also ;)
