 Post subject: Sensor size?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 23, 2009 1:53 pm
Being a Newbie i have a Fuji S100FS which has a 2/3" sensor 11.1 million pixels. I am considering buying a Canon EOS40D OR EOS50D and was wondering if the quality of the picture would be different if all things were the same except the sensor? As i would`nt be printing anything over A3, mostly A4 or A5 would i see a difference?

A compact and a DSLR with the same resolution will of course deliver images with the same number of pixels, but by having a physically larger sensor, the DSLR will enjoy advantages in low noise levels, higher dynamic range and lower demands on the resolution of the lens. The DSLR will also enjoy a smaller depth of field, although some prefer the inherently large DOF of a compact.
